Easy 5-Step Guide to Social Media for Small Businesses

Here are five simple, basic steps to guide you:

  • Step 1: Set up an account - the first thing you need to do is set up an account on any social media platform. Social media's top platforms are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. You can either set up an account on all of them or choose the ones where you feel your target market lies. So, for setting up an account, you would need a suitable image or logo of your organization, its name, and a password; that’s all it takes to set up an account.

  • Step 2: Description/Bio - After setting up an account, the first order of business is to write a suitable bio. In the bio, you need to mention the type of product or service that you deal in. Bio should be short and attractive. Try to cover the content in minimum words. You can also mention your contact information and any tagline or motto that you have.

  • Step 3: Upload - Before searching for potential clients, upload images or videos mentioning details related to your business. That will give a general idea to people when you approach them. Try finding creative ways to upload the content that catches the viewer’s eye.

Start sending follow-up requests to people. Remember that if you promote through Instagram, put your profile on public view so people can see your work. Try to reach as many people as possible, but also keep in mind that social media platforms like Instagram or LinkedIn limit how many people you can follow in a day, so be relevant when you follow people.

  • Step 5: Interact - You must be updated now as you have started your social media promotion. You need to interact daily with people who like their posts, and comments on them show that you are an active user. Don’t just focus on your posts; intermingle with people to see how they are promoting their business or how they are promoting themselves; set up some goals as to the number of followers or likes you should have. Try different ways to upload your posts and analyze what content is working and what is not. Create UCG(user-generated content). This helps in generating more views on your profile. Most of all, be patient; social media is something where it takes time to build a premise, but once you are there, you’ll rise exponentially; remember, you may be just one post away from
