Professionalism refers to the skills and competence an employee is expected to portray. Any work without being identified with your skills is useless. Here are five tips to make Excel spreadsheets look professional.
Leaving a blank row and column
While the main task of the Excel spreadsheet is to store data as much as possible, it is recommended to keep data in any and every but excluding the first row and column. Leaving the first column and row blanks makes the visibility clear as it separates the data from the headings and formula bars.
Clear headers
The headers for each column must be clear and identifiable. It should be an indication of what is being saved beneath it. It is recommended to use a different font for the headers and make them bold. It is also suggested to avoid using italics and word wrapping.
Use less colors
Using multiple colors makes the spreadsheet look filthy and even difficult to understand. When applying colors to a spreadsheet, it is suggested that you use two colors—one for the headings and the other for the rest of the data. You can also remove the gridlines from the data by going to the navigation pane under the View tab.
Use Tables
It is known that tables are dynamic; using them makes storing data easier and further use in applications. Creating a pivot table in Excel is suggested when you want to analyze the data. But also, with tables, it is necessary that you avoid using multiple or too bright colors and also adjust the headers and cell alignments accordingly.
Use images, charts, and graphs.
Using visualizations in your reports and spreadsheets not only makes the data presentable but also easy to understand. Images such as the brand logo for which you are working can be used and placed in the top rows, making the sheet presentable. Excel has a variety of charts, like flow charts and hierarchy charts, that can be used to portray different information. When presenting data via graphs, be it the simplest bar graph or the most complex scatter plot, each can be formed to excel in providing the necessary data.
Making and working on spreadsheets is something a layperson can also do. But making your spreadsheets professional is what your work demands. Use the five tips to create an excel sheet professionally and see how it works for your job.
